‘You can be wrapped in (the) idea that to be happy you need certain things like a romantic relationship, a good career, lots of money and have a house. It's this idea of security as well that makes people happy, but I've come to realise that my life doesn't have to look that way.

Amidst the anxieties of the future that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and disillusioned, my work aims to ground me in the present whilst also capturing a moment in time that will serve as a memory of the past. Reflection on the past serves as a guide, informing present actions and future choices as well as evidence for hope. Looking back on past and current revolutionary movements inspires and keeps me hopeful that through collective action there can be an alternative - that a different world is possible.

Lisa is an Australian-Vietnamese photographer based in Melbourne. Her work centers around exploring the beauty in facets of life that is often overlooked—celebrating the ordinary, mundane, and routine moments that often slip by unnoticed. Her practice is rooted in an appreciation of the forgotten, capturing the seemingly insignificant as a gesture of gratitude.
