Molly

‘Everyone in the world went through it. It just felt really concentrated here (in Melbourne). There were riots, we just didn't know what was going to happen. Now I don't take the future for granted at all. Now I'm like, “Let's go! Let's get up!”. I don't want to be sleeping in or anything like that anymore.’

These images were created under the theme ‘future’. Sometimes a concept so big can be best tackled by being distilled to smaller moments – photography for me allows the nuance to simultaneously capture details and a wider commentary on a moment in time. I shot this series in a 2-hour period – a trip to the market on a Saturday morning, a bustling communion of exchange and bartering, decision making, future planning. Thinking of a shorter future; what will I cook for dinner? How can I use these vegetables this week? Allowing a sense of play in photography helps to ground me as an artist. A reminder life is short, not to takes things too seriously, to live with intent as boldly as possible.
